One Purpose… Six Communities… INFINITE Possibilities…
This year something new and exciting will take place in the Shuswap region that will give the world the chance to experience some of the best and most beautiful features of the area. This unique event called the ‘Routes and Blues’ outreach program will run from August 11-16, 2011 and will be comprised of a series of satellite concerts as the final element in a daily itinerary of activities located en route to the rural community. The idea is to introduce guests and locals alike to the wondrous elements of the Shuswap and bring them together under a common passion: music!
The purpose of the Routes and Blues outreach project is to facilitate experiences with various cultural elements, tnteractions with nature and the promotion of local economic prosperity throughout the Shuswap.
As such, each day will offer a variety of suggested activities that have been chosen due to their appeal to a broad audience. For those that like digging their hands into the Earth’s fertile soil, there will be numerous animal and agricultural activities. Thrill seekers will find activities for their tastes such as ziplining, various aquatic adventures and a special opportunity to partake in a bike clinic. There will also be numerous opportunities to dabble in the artistic and cultural world of pottery, painting and glasswork studios.
The Shuswap Trail Alliance has followed suit by arranging daily hikes each afternoon that will feature epic sights such as the waterfalls at Albas Falls Provincial Park and amazing avian predators that call the Enderby Cliffs home.
After the hikes, each of the communities will fire up their grills and ovens to offer a pre-concert meal as a great source of fuel for the hungry hikers and as a fundraising opportunity for the locals.
Without missing a beat, Routes and Blues has arranged a line-up of acts that will be a feast for the other four senses. Up-and-coming artists such as Aaron Nazrul and the Boom Booms, multiple Juno Award winning Alpha Yaya Diallo as well as Juno Award nominee Rumba Calzada will make the community halls around the Shuswap rumble. In the open-air amphitheatre at Quaaout Lodge, two-time Aboriginal Music Award winner George Leach promises to put on an unforgettable show. Other acts include BCIMA nominee Dominique Fraissard as well as legendary blues man and BCIMA winner Sherman Doucette.
We are extending this invitation to you with the hope that we may be able to introduce you to the wondrous elements of the Shuswap and bring you together with other guests as well as the locals.

The Salmon Arm Folk Music Society has been an active member of the community for over two and half decades through the presentation of our yearly concert series and the Annual Roots and Blues Festival, now in its eighteenth year. The Festival has become a prominent link on the national festival circuit and is considered among the top roots festivals in Canada, while our concerts have offered the local region a diverse range of Canadian and international artists that educate, entertain and challenge audiences to expand their musical horizons.
Each year, we offer several Outreach events within our community to ensure that the music is accessible to all and we are grateful for the opportunity to work with area schools, churches, and other arts organizations.
