Policy on Youth Volunteers at the Roots & Blues Festival and Volunteer Party

It is Festival policy that all volunteers between the ages of 14 and 17 must be the children of an active volunteer or be sponsored by an active adult volunteer who will take responsibility for them. The Festival reserves the right to determine who will be acceptable as responsible adults. The parent or responsible adult must sign a consent form before a minor is formally assigned to a crew.

All youth volunteers will be expected to fulfill duties in order to receive volunteer benefits. They will be expected to conduct themselves appropriately.

Volunteers between the ages of 14 - 17 will be placed to the best of the volunteer coordinator's ability but there is limited space availability and there are no guarantees of volunteers being placed.

Volunteers under the age of 16 will not be assigned to handle cash.

Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied to the volunteer party by their volunteer sponsor.

Sponsor's Declaration and Information

I, have read the above policy and as a current volunteer with the Salmon Arm Roots & Blues Festival agree to take full responsibility for youth volunteer applicant . I understand that if they attend the volunteer party they must be accompanied by me and must conduct themselves in an acceptable manner.

Volunteer Obligations

I am aware of the fact that my application won’t be considered complete until I have sent my photo for my ID-badge (send photos as an attachment in a separate email with your name in it addressed to: vca2@rootsandblues.ca).
If I'm applicant with the Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Festival I agree to be assigned where needed.
I understand that additional information may be required before placement on some crews.
I understand I am required to contribute a minimum of 16 hours (including a four hour set up or tear down shift depending on crew - first year volunteers must commit to a tear down shift ).
I will take responsibility to know when my volunteer shifts are scheduled. I will contact the Head Supervisor.
I agree to make myself available for shifts as required and fulfill the obligations with the Festival.
I agree to comply with the Volunteer Code of Conduct of the Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Festival.

Volunteer Code of Conduct

As a volunteer you shall treat other volunteers, performers, staff, and the public with respect. If a conflict arises, resolution should be deferred to your crew Head Supervisor or the Volunteer Coordinator.
Volunteers must arrive on shift sober and there shall be no use/consumption of alcohol by any volunteer who is on duty on the Festival site. Off-duty Volunteers are not to wear Volunteer T-shirts while in the Beer Gardens (Youth Volunteers are restricted from the Beer Gardens).
There shall be no use/consumption of illegal substances by any volunteer on the Festival site. Abuse of this will result in immediate dismissal of the volunteer(s) from the Festival.
Failure to contribute the minimum time requirements (16 hours) or failure to fulfill shift commitments without a satisfactory reason may result in being blacklisted from the Festival.
Supervisors must set a positive example for other volunteers and be prepared to respond to greater expectations, take on greater responsibility, and follow through on commitments. Failure to fulfill commitments may result in replacement of the Supervisor for the next Festival.
As a volunteer you shall not use any property belonging to the Festival for your own advantage. All volunteers must be honest and trustworthy.
Remember that as a volunteer you are the face of the Festival and that it's important to present the Festival in a positive way.

As a Youth Volunteer Applicant, I have read and agree to the Volunteer Obligations and the Volunteer Code of Conduct. I understand that if I attend the volunteer party I must be accompanied by my volunteer sponsor.
